President's Message

November 22, 2005

Hi everyone!

We had a great turnout for our 1st Seminar of the year last month with close to 100 registered attendees. Thanks for making the Corporate Governance Seminar sponsored by Protiviti a solid success.

I am extremely pleased to present the details of our December 12th seminar at the Hilton-Tampa Airport Westshore. Our December Seminar is on a very timely topic. After our Tampa Bay area was threatened by four hurricanes in only forty-four days in 2004, this year’s major hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma captivated our attention and cost billions of dollars in damages. The question is: Is your organization ready when the “big one” strikes?

We have nationally recognized expertise to address our local Chapter. Karl Kispert and Lou Porres are Jefferson Wells’s leading national subject matter experts in Technology Risk Management and Threat and Vulnerability Analysis. Steve Ross from Deloitte is their national leader of the firm’s Business Continuity Management practice. Laurel Burton from QUEST Cyber Center will cover us on offsite document storage and disaster recovery. We will also get local insight from Cheryl Adams of Tech Data. Each of the above will join us on a panel at the end of the day to answer your questions and compare their thoughts on this provocative topic.

The Business Continuity Seminar is a joint meeting with the local Chapter of the Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and will be exclusively sponsored by Jefferson Wells. Many of our members also belong to the local ISACA Chapter.

The remaining two seminars are very close to finalization. Please see the related links for those details. PriceWaterhouseCoopers and KPMG will be also be exclusive sponsors of those upcoming seminars.

These sponsorships enable us to afford to bring in national and regional level speakers that promise to deliver the highest quality seminars possible at the IIA Chapter level. Importantly, for this meeting, ISACA is also contributing to assist with the cost of bring nationally recognized experts to speak to our local Chapter.

Now we need you! Please make your seminar package reservations now. Just click here for seminar pricing information. Also please encourage other members of your organization to sign up. Purchasing the 3 seminar package is the most efficient method to secure your continuing professional education at the best price for remainder of the year. At the same time you are obviously supporting your Chapter that has clearly taken an aggressive position to have the best seminar series ever during the 2005-2006 year.

At the December 12th meeting we will also honor those that have recently qualified for new certifications and also recognize those who are celebrating service anniversaries for their participation in the IIA.

Soon you will also be seeing details of our 1+ hour monthly meetings that start in January and will provide new ways for you to gain CPE and network with your fellow professionals.

I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meetings and Happy Holidays to everyone from your Chapter leadership team!

Gary Jordan, CIA
2005-2006 Chapter President

2005-2006 Seminar Package - 'Remaining 3' Plan

The Chapter leadership has planned an exceptionally strong seminar series this year covering topics in demand by the internal audit community. The Chapter has gathered several nationally and regionally known speakers, promising to bring the most timely and effective Seminar series our chapter has ever presented. You will want to be sure to have a seat for all four days. As in years past, the chapter offers special pricing for seats at all three remaining seminars. Visit http://tampabayiia.org/Pricing_05.htm to make your reservation.

We are offering the remaining three seminars in December, February and May at a reduced price. Even if you missed the October seminar, you can still get in on the best CPE value in Tampa Bay! Follow the link above.

Hold This Date!

The Chapter's Academic Relations committee is planning an outreach event for accounting and auditing students to be held at USF from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21st. It will be hosted jointly by our IIA chapter and the USF Accounting Circle. We plan to have a social hour with students and then present a speaker on the topic "Internal Audit's Role in Implementing COSO, ERM and SOX 302/404". We are looking forward to a great opportunity to meet students and introduce them to Internal Audit.
